Chronic back pain or pain related to poor posture is very common. Our lifestyles and activities make us adopt reflexes that have harmful consequences on our posture: looking at our notifications as soon as we wake up, being in front of our computer screen all day, then sitting in front of the couch to watch Netflix to end the day, again in front of our Insta' notifications or on Tik Tok. This sedentary lifestyle, and all these repeated postures have serious consequences on our physical capacities: posture collapses and chronic ailments develop. Here are 3 postures to relieve this pain and improve posture 👇
1. The cat / The cow
Alternating these two postures is excellent because it tones and loosens the spine. In addition, it stretches the neck.
How to perform these two postures?
- Start on all fours, in table pose.
- Knees below hips, hands below shoulders.
- Hands firmly push off the ground.
- As you inhale, hollow out your back.
- As you exhale, round your lower, middle and upper back.
- Repeat several times.
2. Downward dog
This posture will strengthen the muscles of the shoulders and back, and thus straighten your entire body. The downward dog is a posture that has many other benefits, I have also written an entire article that details this posture: click here to discover it.
How to do downward dog?
- Start on all fours, in table pose.
- Knees below hips, hands below shoulders.
- On an inhale, hook the mat with your toes, lift your knees and lift your pelvis.
- As you exhale, straighten your legs.
- Hands and feet actively push off the ground.
- Release the head between the arms and keep the spine straight to stretch the back.
- Breathe.
3. The back twist
To relax and loosen muscles and the whole body.
How to do the back twist?
- Start lying on your back with your legs bent and the soles of your feet on the floor.
- As you inhale, bring your knees towards your chest and stretch your arms out to the side of your body.
- As you exhale, swing your knees to the left and look to the right.
- Breathe for at least 5 breath cycles.
- Repeat on the other side.
